Down and Dirty; an introduction to the joy of working with clay

This 4-session class will introduce you to the basic concepts of working in clay. By completing a series of projects, you will learn methods of building pieces with slabs and coils, throwing on the wheel, surface decoration, and glazing. We'll discuss the different kinds of clay, the different firing methods used to finish the work and how firing process affects the outcome of the piece. Class limited to six students.

Basic Wheel Throwing

A 6 -week class to introduce students to basic wheel work techniques. In addition, students will learn to prepare clay for throwing, trim and finish thrown pots and the basics of applying glazes. Class is limited to 4 students so there will be lots of individual attention. If you have some experience and want to improve your skills, this class can work for you.

Classes and Workshops for Children and Families

Baca St. Pottery offers clay experiences for children ranging from one time special events workshops to multi-session classes. The studio is a safe, clean and supportive environment for children to explore their talents.

Class fees include all materials and single firing of work produced.

Family Clay Play

The family that plays together... What could be more fun than playing in the mud together? Parents and children. Grandchildren and grandparents. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Bring everyone. Create a family piece, like a mural or sculpture, or work separately to create individual pieces. The instructor will provide guidance for all ages. Workshops must be scheduled a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Length: 1 1/2 - 2 hours
Number of students: minimum of 2, maximum of 6
Fee: $150.00 for up to 3 students, an additional $40.00 for each additional student

Special Event Clay Play

Celebrate that special birthday or event by bringing the party to Baca Street Pottery where each participant can create something to remind them of the special day. All work will be fired and delivered at a later date. Children must be at least 6 years old and groups must be accompanied by at least one adult. Events must be scheduled a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

Group size: minimum 4, maximum 8
Length of workshop: 1 1/2 - 2 hours
Fee: $180.00 for 4, an additional $30.00 for each additional participant
